Once processed, we are now led back up to the rooms, where in a very full room, the wee nun (speaks only Spanish, I'm relying on JC here for help), enters into a debate with the pilgrims there.turns out she was trying to get me a bed there because my brother is in that room.but as I'm happy to stay in another room, we are sorted, great room, first pick of the beds, one beside a heater, how easily a pilgrim is rewarded. I walked the last 6km with JC our American pilgrim, we arrived just as some pilgrims were being led up to a room, so we followed the pack, as wee nun is directing pilgrims to various beds.when she spots us she is not pleased, we have not booked in, she knows because she does the bookings, so we are sent down stairs, we wander about, knocking on doors, no one, we find a nun (thats another nun,) who directs us to what appears to be a dining room, we are joined by the wee nun and are processed. We walked along a canal, a bit of cover from a thin line of trees, wine man (currently lobbying to be called rain man), attempted conversation, which could only be accomplished by shouting.'I think the weathers improving' he roared.Įarly afternoon, we arrive in Carrion de los Condes.and book into a convent.yup a convent.wine man is delighted, its one of the high points of the trip.įacilities are good, beds not bunks, good kitchen, hot showers, a laundry, the WiFi is even good.of course there are lots of pictures of Jesus looking down on you.but then it is a convent. We walked 25km today, but to be fair the day flew, at one point we crossed a motorway on a high bridge, to be fair it was some fun, most pilgrims crossed holding firmly to the guard rail, as the wind gusted about them. This morning was a continuation of yesterday, we woke in darkness to the sound of the gale outside, it was a full gear day, anything to keep the cold at bay, there is no cover now, its open farmland, trees, any type of shelter is rare, ironically the guide warns in hot weather the lack of shelter, means we must carry plenty of water and protect ourselves from the sun! But the sun does not show today, its overcast, dark, as the gale blasts us along.
The weather continues to stay on the cool side, last night we could hear the wind billow outside, the town yesterday had the appearance of some town from old mexico, devoid of people, any sort of vehicle, just the cold wind twisting up and down the narrow streets, half expect Clint Eastwood to come around the corner, like in the spaghetti westerns!
